How do you pronounce it!
I’ve been asked that, and here’s the story behind the name.
I was collaborating with my brother (aka Fascination Factory- check him out on Instagram) , who does some of the designs on our website. One thing we could both agree on was that the world is changing rapidly. We all know that change is constant, but things feel accelerated right now—and that’s scary. New technology, fear around AI, and political upheaval are wreaking havoc on our day-to-day lives and our consciences.
There’s a Latin phrase: Tempora mutantur, nos et mutamur in illis, which can be translated as: “Times are changed; we, too, are changed within them.”
I don’t speak Latin, but I’ve always resonated deeply with this phrase and the idea behind it. Buddhists believe that when you resist change and become attached to how things are, suffering follows. That makes sense to me.
But let’s be honest—things are chaotic right now. Sometimes when I’m on social media, it feels like there are two groups of people: the kind and compassionate, and then everyone else who feels… Nazi-ish. I know it’s not that black and white, but sometimes that’s how it feels.
I started this project and this brand in 2026 because I felt a strong need to create something positive. There is so much negativity in the world that it can completely dominate what we see, and that’s not healthy.
I am an optimist by nature. I’m a glass-half-full kind of girl. I believe that if we stay focused on the desired outcome—which I think we can all agree looks much better than things do right now—we can get there. I’m looking forward to a future where democracy rules, people are kind, and everyone has equal opportunity. That is the American way, after all… right?
I believe that most human beings are good, although that belief has been tested recently. Still, I believe that if we stay present, pay attention, and help each other through this moment, we’ll come out on the right side of history—and build a better life for ourselves. My first design was a mug with a pun. Instead of Imagine World Peace, it said : Imagine Whirled Peas. My friend Paul (Thanks Paul!) helped with the design concept. I love this mug because it communicates why we are here.
That’s what Mutantur is all about: hopeful change. Hope is not passive. It never has been.
So yes, I know it’s hard to pronounce, and yes, it’s a little weird. I’m sorry about that—but it fits what we’re trying to create here, and it fits my heart.
I hope this resonates with you. If it does, please join us. Sign up for our mailing list, and we’ll keep you posted on new blog posts, new product offerings, and new things we’re exploring.
